If you wish to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you are able to enable password protection for a specific folder - either the primary website folder or any other one below it. If this option is activated, a pop-up will appear each time a person tries to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link which goes a few levels deeper, so login details shall be needed for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg in case you have secured only the domain.com folder. In case the credentials aren't valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there isn't any way to get around this restriction, so you can be certain that no one will be able to access the shielded content. The function may be helpful in various cases - if only a number of people need to be able to see certain files, if you work on a website and you don't want people to see it before it's completed, and so on.

Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting

Creating a password-protected area shall take just several mouse clicks and a few seconds if you host your sites within a shared hosting account with us. You shall not have to do anything complex - you'll need to choose a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it should be protected, and then to enter the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. If a number of people require their own login details, there will not be a problem to make numerous different usernames with access to the same exact folder. All secured folders shall appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this feature is enabled. If you want to deactivate the protection feature for any folder, you can deactivate it from the same section of the CP in which you have enabled it.
